Flight Attendant Appreciation Weekend
The Museum of Flight hosts Flight Attendant Appreciation Weekend, a celebration of the people who have shaped aviation history and culture through stories, fashion, history, and hands-on activities.
- Visitors can hear firsthand stories from active and retired flight attendants during an engaging interview panel featuring inflight tales ranging from humorous to thrilling. From improving safety aboard the earliest commercial flights to advocating for greater workplace rights, flight attendants have played a vital role in aviation’s ongoing story.
- Guests can explore the Museum’s temporary exhibit, Runway to Runway, which examines evolving flight attendant fashions and perceptions throughout the Jet Age and beyond. Featuring 100 artifacts, real-life stories, and interactive activities, the exhibit offers a detailed look at the profession’s changing image and experience.
- A thought-provoking talk by Victoria Vantoch, author of The Jet Sex: Airline Stewardesses and the Making of an American Icon, is also featured. The presentation explores how gender roles, feminism, and media shaped the image of the flight attendant, as well as how flight attendants influenced American culture. A book signing will follow the talk.
- The “Beauty and Duty” display showcases women’s military uniforms, highlighting service, identity, and evolving perceptions over time.
- Family-friendly activities include a sewing workshop, scarf decorating, and other creative opportunities.
