The Flight of Jackie Cochran

A new documentary tells the story of an overlooked aviation pioneer and contemporary of Amelia Earhart. Jackie Cochran shattered more speed, altitude, and distance records than any pilot of her time, male or female.

She became the first woman to break the sound barrier and played a pivotal role in founding the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) during World War II, helping transform the role of women in the military.

But Cochran’s story extends far beyond her records and accolades. Born into poverty, she reinvented herself and carefully guarded the details of her early life. Her remarkable journey became a testament to resilience, ambition, and determination in the face of societal expectations—and even the limits of gravity.

Despite her extraordinary accomplishments, Jackie Cochran has largely faded from public memory. Based on a stage play, The Flight of Jackie Cochran revisits her legacy, exploring not only her groundbreaking achievements but also the personal sacrifices behind her success and the silence that followed.

A Q&A with director Jessica Anderson and playwright and producer Nancy Hasty will follow the screening.
