A remarkable story of perseverance, courage, and ambition takes center stage at the Museum as Seattle-based actor Minki Bai presents The Ballad of Freddie Ohr. This compelling one-man performance brings to life the experiences of Fred Ohr, who became the first and only Korean American flying ace during World War II.
Drawing on interviews with Ohr and inspired by American folk traditions and legendary figures such as Paul Bunyan and John Henry, the play blends music, storytelling, and firsthand accounts to illuminate the immigrant experience. Audiences will follow Ohr’s extraordinary journey from a challenging childhood in rural Idaho through the obstacles of racial discrimination and the dangers of aerial combat, as he relentlessly pursued his dream of becoming a pilot.
